Adanti: the charm of Sagrantino

A company born from a dream and an intuition, that of Domenico Adanti, who in the 1970s, in Bevagna, Umbria, decided to buy a villa in Arquata to create a modern winery there, aiming at high quality wine production. It all started in 1972 from an old convent of Celestine monks, bought and renovated by Adanti, surrounded by abandoned vineyards, replanted next to new ones. Today, the winery covers a total area of around 30 hectares located in the hilly areas of Arquata, in the Campoletame area and finally in Colcimino, a real cru where the oldest vineyard is located. The current owners are Daniela Adanti and her daughter Stella, who continue to this day to aim for a select production of quality wines, constantly devoting the utmost care to each product, respecting the territory and its ancient traditions.
A virtuous viticulture
Respect, sustainability and innovation are three key words that guide the daily work of the Umbrian winery. It starts with respect, i.e. the adherence to virtuous viticulture, aimed at favouring the vegetative-productive balance of the vineyard, maintaining the integrity of the soil and stimulating the plant's defences so as to reduce the number of treatments. Organic farming practices that make the winery even more sustainable, thanks to a deep respect for the land and its natural rhythms.
In the vineyard, every choice is careful and shrewd, based on the desire to keep every single plant in perfect vegetative balance, so as to harvest, from vintage to vintage, concentrated, rich and forthright grapes. In the cellar, the philosophy is the same: we always work towards the highest possible quality, processing and enhancing the grapes to bring out the characteristics that time and terroir have expressed in the fruit.
Traditional, elegant and long-lived wines
For sixty years, Adanti has focused on traditional local grape varieties such as Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso to produce wines of great elegance, drinkability and longevity. The style of Adanti's wines "has always been marked by elegance and moderation, both favouring drinkability, they have an agile sip that is the result of delicate vinification aimed at accompanying the exuberance of Sagrantino and making the most of Sangiovese," said Daniela Adanti in an interview.
The winery, from its earliest days, seeks out and extrapolates from Sagrantino the many and varied characteristics that distinguish it: this has made it possible, even through lengthy maturation, to make it a unique product, capable of evoking, in the various vintages, the passage of time.
Sagrantino Montefalco il Domenico
Dedicated to the founder of the winery, this Sagrantino comes from the selection of the best grapes from the vineyard located on the hills of Colcimino. Intense ruby red in colour with garnet hues, it boasts an articulate aromatic bouquet ranging from notes of cassis, tobacco and coffee to graphite. After ageing for 48 months in wood and 48 months in the bottle, the result is a powerful, spicy, tannin-rich wine with a long finish to be enjoyed with stews, braised meats, game, blue and mature cheeses.

Sagrantino Montefalco Arquata
Dark ruby red in colour, it conquers the nose with its aromas of sour cherries, blackberries and plums, punctuated by suggestive notes of graphite, liquorice, juniper berries and herbs. Tannicity and freshness are well balanced with alcohol and sugar. Matured in wood for at least 2 years and 24 months in bottle, this Sagrantino is an ageing wine that improves over time for more than 10 years. It should be enjoyed at the table with well-aged and spicy cheeses, lasagne, noble salami, grilled meats and game.

Sagrantino Montefalco Passito
A wine of ancient tradition, it is the result of careful selection in the vineyard of the best Sagrantino grapes destined for drying. Ruby red in colour with violet hues. A sweetish wine, it is a triumph of sour cherry, myrtle, morello cherry and blackberry preserves. The freshness is well balanced by sweetness and acidity. It matures in oak barrels for 30 months. It goes well with dry pastries, blue cheeses, chocolate cakes. After a meal it is an excellent meditation wine.

Montefalco Rosso
An intense and rich wine, long and elegant: a blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet grapes that expresses the best of its terroir. Ageing in oak barrels for 12 months imparts a soft and harmonious profile, with a bouquet of aromas ranging from balsamic tones to fruity notes of cherries, currants, blackberries and plums. Fresh and with balanced tannin on the palate, its savouriness further enlivens the already fruity and balsamic taste: the perfect red for particularly tasty lamb dishes and mature cheeses.
