Toasts of love: 8 wines for Valentine's Day

Saturday, 14 February 2026 Francesca Negri, Saturday, 14 February 2026 (4 minutes read)

The inevitable bubbles for toasting, elegant and intoxicating still whites, intense, velvety and deep reds to ignite passion: on Valentine's Day, wine, a symbol of passion and sharing, becomes the star of a romantic dinner, transforming each course into an unforgettable moment and experience, where each glass tells a story of love with aromas, flavors, and complicity.

Champagne Mallol, Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Infini Champagne

A jewel of finesse and elegance from Champagne Mallol. Infini is made from Chardonnay grapes from the Côte de Blancs and stands out for its vibrant freshness, persistent minerality, and refined aromatic complexity. Complex and intriguing on the nose (with aromas of toast and butter), it is fresh and mineral on the palate, with a pleasant acidity complemented by a touch of freshness and liveliness thanks to citrus flavors. With its long and persistent finish, this sparkling wine pairs well with oysters, raw fish, sushi, as well as cheeses and delicate first courses.

Fontana Graziano, Trentodoc Brut Riserva M.C.

Strong aromas, lively minerality, bright acidity, and a very creamy finish are the distinctive features of Trentodoc Brut Riserva from the San Michele all'Adige winery: a pure Chardonnay that, after 40 months of aging, offers aromas of bread crust, crisp yellow fruit, and hints of dried fruit. With its fine and persistent perlage, this Trentodoc is an excellent accompaniment to fish dishes, shellfish, cold cuts and mature cheeses, and savory pastries.

Conti Thun, Brut Bolle di Gioia M.M.

An elegant blend of Riesling Renano, Riesling Italico, and Incrocio Manzoni grapes grown in Valtènesi, Conti Thun's Brut Bolle di Gioia sparkling wine is a fresh and pleasant white wine that embodies all the noble character of Riesling. A Charmat method that surprises with its perfect balance between savoriness and freshness, subtle bubbles, and an intense bouquet with notes of orange blossom, grapefruit, lemon, and citrus flowers, making it ideal to sip as an aperitif for a romantic evening with cold cuts and white meat and fish appetizers.

Baroni di Pianogrillo, Flâneur Grillo BIO

Fresh and tasty, Flâneur recalls the Sicilian terroir and sea with its iodine notes that enrich its taste and aroma profile, offering a light and lively drink. Made exclusively from pure Grillo grapes, this young white wine releases pleasant sensations of wildflowers and white-fleshed fruit on a mineral background. It is fresh and savory on the palate, with a pleasant and persistent finish. Try it with raw fish, salmon tartare, sea bass baked in salt, spaghetti with clams, and Asian cuisine.

Muri-Gries, Blauburgunder

Blauburgunder is produced in the Pinot Noir vineyards cultivated by the monks of the Muri-Gries monastery in San Michele Appiano. It is a bright ruby red wine, full-bodied and fruity on the nose with hints of ripe crunchy cherries, blackcurrants, blackberries, and raspberries. A rustic yet elegant wine, it intrigues the palate with its slightly spicy character and hints of bay leaf and tarragon. With its great structure and fullness, appealing tannins, and lively acidity, it pairs well with lamb chops, braised beef, venison and wild boar dishes, mushroom risottos, and truffle tagliatelle.

Conterno Diego, Nebbiolo Langhe Baluma

In the small town of Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of Barolo production, Diego Conterno and his son Stefano devote themselves with dedication and passion to the typical grape varieties of their terroir, among which Nebbiolo stands out. Baluma is made from Nebbiolo grapes, a red wine that fills the palate, tickling the mouth and nose in a light symphony of flavors and aromas. The nose is dominated by floral notes of violet and fruity notes of strawberry and cherry. It is fresh and intense on the palate with a lingering finish. Excellent with pasta dishes with meat sauce, tajarin with mushrooms or truffles, beef fillet, stews, braised red meats, mature cheeses, and guinea fowl with almonds.

Col di Lamo, Brunello di Montalcino Selezione a Diletta

Dedicated to her daughter Diletta, Giovanna Neri's Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown according to organic farming principles, characterized by balance, dedication, and enthusiasm. The nose is broad with notes of red fruit, morello cherries, blackberries, some smoky notes, and well-articulated yellow spices. On the palate, it is juicy and elegant with refined tannins and an appealing savory flavor: a full-bodied and well-balanced wine, which is very pleasant to drink and has a juicy, complex and very persistent finish. Ideal with hearty dishes based on red meat, game and wild game, with cocoa tagliatelle with wild boar sauce, with canederli (dumplings) and with tripe.

Tenute Olbios, Colli del Limbara Rosso Muristellu Amur

A red wine that celebrates love right from the label, Amur by Terre Olbios is 100% Muristellu (a native Sardinian grape variety) that intoxicates with its fragrant nuances of dark berries, currants, myrtle, and juicy blackberries, complemented by hints of thyme and graphite. Dry and round on the palate, the gentle tannins give structure and confirm the typical character of Muristellu grapes, together with its lively freshness. A red wine that seduces the palate, with a very pleasant and slender taste to pair with land-based appetizers, aged cheeses, vegetable-based first courses, soups, white meats, and game.
