The Red Side of Marisa Cuomo
Marisa Cuomo is a woman whose courage and determination have turned a dream into reality, giving life to one of the most renowned wineries in Campania and beyond. A wedding gift from her husband in 1980, the winery has since become synonymous with excellence in the world of wine, celebrating the beauty and grandeur of the Amalfi Coast through its bottles. With one eye on the future and one eye on the traditions of the past, Marisa Cuomo continues to produce wines that capture the unique essence of this enchanted corner of Italy.
In a harsh, difficult, extreme and unique territory such as Furore (SA), where the ten hectares of vineyards lie on the cliffs overlooking the sea of the Gulf of Amalfi, Marisa Cuomo and her husband Andrea preserve and enhance an invaluable oenological heritage by cultivating historical and some more than a hundred-year-old vines of Falanghina, Biancolella, Ripoli, Fenile, Ginestra, Aglianico and Piedirosso.
Thanks to her innate talent, tireless commitment and passion, Marisa Cuomo manages to imprint a profound and unmistakable imprint on all her labels, an authentic expression of the territory in which they are born.
Among the oenological pearls of Marisa Cuomo's production that are able to excite, next to the multi-award-winning Fiorduva Furore Bianco, is Furore Rosso, produced with Piedirosso (50% and locally called Per e Palummo) and Aglianico grapes. Harvested by hand, the grapes after destemming and crushing undergo fermentation with maceration for 12 days followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation for 6 months in second-passage French oak barriques. A Costa d'Amalfi DOC that shines in the glass with its red colour with ruby reflections, while the nose is pervaded by aromas of ripe cherry, plum and liquorice, while in the mouth the flavour is soft, balanced, with a pleasant background of spicy notes, gentle tannins and a finish with excellent persistence. A red wine that goes well with dishes such as risotto with mushrooms, tagliatelle with pork ragout, grilled red meats, but also with medium-aged cheeses.
In its Riserva version, Furore Rosso is aged 12 months in new French oak barriques and captivates with its intense aromatic bouquet of blackberries, currants and blueberries enhanced by sensations that veer towards wood and smokiness. On the palate it is soft and intense, with a finish of underbrush and spices. It is the perfect accompaniment to first courses with meat sauce, stewed and grilled red meat, game, sliced beef, as well as spicy dishes and white meat main courses.
