Silvia, daughter of the land and wine

Friday, 18 September 2026 Maddalena Frigerio, Friday, 18 September 2026 (0 minutes read)

Upon arriving in Nervesa della Battaglia, a small town nestled beside the Piave River, we are greeted by Silvia’s smile.

Young, cheerful, and enterprising, Silvia carries on a legacy deeply rooted in the land and her family: first her grandfather, then her father, and now her. The business began with the cultivation of vegetables, such as radicchio and asparagus, which are emblematic of the Treviso region. Then, in the 1990s, the vineyard was added. It was Grandfather Bepi who planted the first vines, thus opening a new chapter in the family’s history.

As we walk among the rows of vines, Silvia tells us how she has always experienced the world of farming with ease and joy. Ever since she was a child, she eagerly awaited the arrival of summer, when she could spend her days with her father and grandfather in the fields, surrounded by the scents of the vegetable garden and the sweet aromas of freshly harvested grapes.

“It’s an environment I’ve always felt very comfortable in,” she tells us. “Once I grew up and had to decide which school to attend—and since I often heard the term winemaker mentioned—I decided to pursue this course of study.”

A choice that, over the years, has turned into a true calling.

After completing her studies, Silvia decided to return to her homeland and forge a path that would both preserve and renew the history of her family and the surrounding region. She thus began cultivating some of the traditional grape varieties most closely associated with these hills: Incrocio Manzoni, Verdiso, Perera, Bianchetta, and Raboso Piave.

These vineyards tell the story of a place, its memory, and the character of those who live there. And Silvia chooses to listen to them, letting tradition serve as the starting point for looking toward the future.

    A mascot among the vineyards

As we continue our walk, our gaze falls on the company’s logo, which features a mallard. We ask Silvia what story lies behind that image.

The answer, of course, is a story of the countryside, of unexpected encounters, and of respect for nature.

Silvia’s family has always had a careful and respectful relationship with the wildlife that inhabits the fields and vineyards. One day, while they were weeding between the rows of vines, they came across a brood of mallards.

“We waited until the end of the day to finish our work, and when we returned to the vineyard, the ducklings were still there waiting for us. At the end of the day, we took them home with us.”

A makeshift pen became their new home for that night. But a severe storm during the night swept away the small shelter—and with it, almost all of its inhabitants.

Almost all of them. Only one remained. “From that day on, he became our mascot.”

And so, among the vine rows, a little mallard duck became part of our family’s history, symbolizing a deep connection with the nature that surrounds us and accompanies our daily work in the vineyard.

    The wines

Silvia then leads us into the cellar where her red wines rest and age. Here, time seems to follow a different rhythm: slower, more patient, marked by the wood and the wait.

It is here that the Rosso Solstizio and the Malanotte del Piave DOCG take shape—two wines that each, in their own way, reflect Silvia’s desire to interpret the terroir without compromising her vision of wine.

“The Malanotte del Piave DOCG is a very distinctive wine. So I wanted to take an innovative and modern approach to make this wine more youthful while still highlighting the Raboso Piave grape variety.”

A grape with a strong, tenacious, rustic character, deeply rooted in this land. A grape variety that Silvia has chosen to view with fresh eyes, without betraying its soul.

“It is, in fact, a tenacious and rustic grape variety, and I wanted to reinterpret it in a more modern way.”

In the glass, time becomes an integral part of the wine: a portion of sun-dried grapes, three years of aging in wood, and a final year in stainless steel. Four years during which the wine remains in silence, allowing time to do its work.

Amid the vineyards of Nervesa della Battaglia, Silvia is writing her own story: with deep roots in the past and her eyes set on the future.
